Toulumne Meadows to mile 963, 21 miles
Cost: Camped, free
We slept in until 7am which felt terrific. Mrs Smith made us a delicious breakfast of yoghurt, granola and berries, washed down with orange juice… Oh to be able to have that for breakfast on the trail every day!
I still haven’t quite figured out my breakfasts on the trail yet other than a carnation breakfast powder mixed with a coffee sachet and shaken with water in a powerade bottle. I’ve tried pop tarts (too sweet), apple/cherry pies (too sweet), Quaker oats (fine but a pain to make), and granola bars (not filling enough). I’m almost over clif bars too after having one almost everyday in the trail for the last 69 days! Anyone got any quick, easy but filling breakfast ideas?
Aunt Mo dropped us off at the trail around 9:30am and we hiked with the intention of catching up to Teflon, KC & Shepherd. We passed waterfalls and beautiful streams all day.
After 21 miles we decided to call it a day, hoping we would catch up with the others tomorrow. The mosquitoes were so incredibly bad at our campsite that I accidentally swiped my earring out of my ear (and lost the back of it in the sand) while trying to swat at the hundreds of mosquitoes on my face. I ate dinner with my headnet on, not so easy!
