- Easter Drumquhassle farm, £5 to camp
- I took the train from London to Glasgow
- then changed to a local train to Milngavie and the start of the West Highland Way
- The first few kilometres were delightful through woodland
- Scotland’s Great Trails official thimble way mark
- Then the terrain changed with views of the Strathblane hills and Dumgoyne (on the left)
- Dumgoyne peeking out beyond the farm and trees
- This looked terrific but it was unfortunately closed by the time I arrived
- One of the best signs you can come across when hiking!
- Honesty box
- I’ll always be a tourist in the UK and couldn’t help but take a photo of this cute little post box!

Hi Aidan, I wasn’t expecting the trail to be so busy so I wasn’t originally planning ahead or even making a plan but I did end up calling a few campsites on the same day just to find out if I needed to reserve or not. Most said just come along – Glencoe Mountain Resort and Kinlochlevin (Blackwater Hostel) were the busiest campsites. I was also expecting to find more places to wild camp than I did. I’m sure it would be a different story and quieter outside of the summer season.

Great to see you are walking again. I did this walk in 2012 prior to doing the Comino. When you get close to Glencoe the scenery is to die for/ I did it later in the year and there were very few hikers.

Glencoe certainly was beautiful (through dark and moody skies) 😉 I think the WHW is a wonderful mix of terrain and scenery… I hope to walk it again at a quieter time of year.

It’s the Big Agnes Coppur Spur UL 1 person tent. I took this tent with me because it’s freestanding and I didn’t know what kind of surfaces I would be pitching the tent on. It’s a terrific tent and it worked out perfectly.
