Day 36, 37 and 38
Las Vegas – “Waiting for the snow to melt in the Sierras trip”
Cost: Stayed in a 2 bedroom suite at the Polo Towers with 5 others for $30 per night
Costco & Cuban B went to pick up the two rental cars at 8:30am and we were all packed and on the road by 9am. Our first stop (before leaving Tehachapi) was at Starbucks then the Motel 6 in Mojave to pick up my resupply box, then Subway for lunch along the I15. On the outskirts of Vegas we found a Walmart where Tentfire and I bought $12 bikinis and groceries for our Vegas suite.
The first thing I did when we checked in was make a huge Mediterranean salad, boiled eggs and had a lovely healthy lunch.
In the evening we walked along the strip and I watched some of the others play blackjack (I’m not a gambler), then we ended up at the Ellis Island casino where I sat in the awesome dive bar and did some of the best people watching I’ve ever done as the people in the bar got up on the stage one by one and belted out karaoke tunes!
I made scrambled eggs with mushrooms and bacon for breakfast then we all went on a shopping trip to REI.
I needed to buy new shoes but was nervous about the idea of wearing a shoe that I’d never worn before, for the first time on the trail. Brooks Cascadia 9s were on sale for $84 and REI said they would replace them if I got holes in them as quickly as had happened to the 10s (I took my 10s in with me and showed them the problem I’ve been having). So I bought the 9s and I really hope they last more than 100 miles.
I woke up and made scrambled eggs with mushrooms for breakfast then set about unpacking my resupply box.

I packed my bag then we headed out to get our group photo with the ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign. There was a long queue of people waiting to have their photo taken and some people looked like they had possibly just got married!
After our pic we all headed to the Bellagio for the $25 all you can eat lunch buffet. Coincidentally friends of mine were in Vegas too so we caught up over the lunch buffet and I certainly ate my $25 worth!
After lunch I had a wonderful afternoon wandering around taking photos and enjoying the last day in Vegas. Back on the trail tomorrow!
