  • Day 18 – rest day in Kyoto
  • Weather: windy and cold
  • Accommodation: R Star Hostel, Kyoto ¥3,900 dorm room

I was tired and grumpy yesterday and was in desperate need of a rest day but I couldn’t book two nights in a hostel anywhere in Kyoto because of Golden Week starting this weekend, so I had to move to a new hostel. I slept really well last night, especially with a choice of pillows and my own room! Breakfast was free and fantastic – breads, jam, croissants, boiled eggs, salad, rice, pickles and miso soup.

I booked into R Star Hostel and decided to pop by Toji Temple on the way there. At the temple I got sidetracked by a festival going on and by the time I wanted to enter the actual grounds, it was closed! Oh well! I checked into an 8-bed female dorm, then walked to the Gion area to some favourite haunts of mine and had a great night. I LOVE KYOTO! In fact, I actually think Kyoto is my happy place and I need to move here. If anyone has a job and a visa for me in Kyoto, please get in touch!
