It was a short day and we had booked the parador in Leon for the night, but check-in wasn’t until midday so we weren’t in any hurry to leave our albergue in Mansilla. It was a surprise though to be woken by Katharina at 7:30am and be the only ones left in the dorm!

It was an easy walk and we arrived in Leon at midday. I knew straightaway after walking through the city that I was going to enjoy having two nights here. We’d decided to splurge a little and stay our first night in the parador, a 5* hotel that features in the movie The Way, and was built in the 16th century as the San Marcos Monastery. It was only €45 each for a twin room including breakfast which was great value, and the hotel was incredible! Some parts were 16th century and some 18th century, the facade and inner courtyard were simply stunning. We had a big bathtub in the room so after having showers with hot water we filled the bath with all of our dirty clothes and let them soak! Then we went out on the town in Leon and did a tapas crawl, it was a terrific night!
