The Camino Frances is the most well known and most popular route to Santiago, following the Way of St James ancient pilgrimage. This route typically starts in St Jean Pied de Port on the French side of the Pyrenees and is approximately 780km (485mi) to Santiago de Compostela.

Statistics from 1 Jan – 31 Aug 2014 show 116,915 pilgrims completed the Camino Frances compared to the second most popular route, the Camino Portuguese with 26,380 pilgrims. Thanks Johnnie Walker for these stats 🙂
