  • Weather: Sunny, 20 degrees
  • Temple: 40, (Kanjizaiji), 38km
  • Accommodation: Tent, Sunokawa Park opposite onsen, free

I woke at 5:30am to a lovely cool autumn morning. I even had to put extra layers on for the first time since starting this adventure. The trail snaked through the hills and it was very peaceful walking through bamboo then pine forests.

Today really dragged out for me though and it seemed to take forever to arrive at Temple 40. Just before arriving and while I was walking along the highway, a lady stopped her car on the other side of the road, ran across the road in front of me and handed me a bag of mandarins. She was gone just as fast as she appeared and I thanked her as quickly as I could but I hope she realised how much her kind gesture meant to me. I ate 3 mandarins while walking and they were delicious.

After visiting the temple I was again walking along the coastal road with beautiful views of small rock islands. I stopped often to take photos and finally arrived at our rendezvous spot at the Onsen after 4pm. A bath was needed and it really hit the spot.

We had chosen the Onsen as it was opposite a park with a hut and toilet that we hoped we would be able to camp at for the night. After a bath and dinner we headed to the park and set up the tent in a big rotunda and I fell asleep watching more Breaking Bad episodes!
