  • Day 39 – Fukushima to Sendai
  • Distance: 97.3km
  • Ascent / descent: 547m / 744m
  • Weather: sunny and hot
  • Accommodation: Couchsurfing host Tama-san, Sendai

I left early, excited to be on my way to Sendai to stay for two nights with a couch-surfing host called Tama-san. There’s a big festival on this weekend in Sendai called Aoba-matsuri which I’m looking forward to seeing and having a day off the bike 🙂

I was on the ‘struggle bus’ a bit today. Tired I guess and perhaps even a bit lonely. I’m meeting people every day but it’s not the same as travelling with someone. I’m trying to focus on the ‘now’ but my mind is always thinking about the past and future and worries. Tomorrow’s day off should do me well.

Thanks everyone for helping me to identify this as a badger :)

I arrived in Sendai around 4pm and took a detour past the station to see if I could see any festival activities, but there was nothing on in that area. I continued onto Tama’s place and was met with a lovely warm welcome. She has a beautiful apartment where she lives with her brother and I had my own room and was made to feel at home straight away. I’d found a bottle of Portuguese Vinho Verde in the ACoop supermarket which I thought was perfect for this warm day, so after we came back from dinner at one of Tama’s favourite restaurants of the local specialty – ‘gyutan’ (bbq cow tongue), we opened the bottle and sat on the couch talking into the night.
