- Day 15: Comillas to La Franca
- Distance: 31km
- Weather: Sunny and hot
- Accommodation: Albergue Triskel, €15 incl breakfast + €5 dinner
I have my first view of the Picos de Europa and they appear to be covered in snow, although it’s just an early morning allusion, they’re not.

And still walking by the coast
It’s 11km before I pass a cafe, just before crossing the bridge to San Vicente de la Barquera. I have a slice of tortilla and two coffees.

I walk for another 8km before another cafe pit-stop, this time in Serdió. There’s a motorbike competition happening and I’m the only one not in leathers.

A new waymark
After a few more kilometres, I meet Janet from Denmark and we stop for a short break at a cafe in Unquera. When we leave Unquera, we also leave Cantabria and enter the next region of Asturias. Time flies as we continue the last 5km together to Albergue Triskel in La Franca. The albergue is in the basement of a lovely lady’s house and has all the facilities you could want. It’s clean and welcoming. Cyndi and Jörg are here too and I’m delighted to see them. Together with Janet we sit outside in the garden and have a pre-dinner picnic of chips, fruit and beer (while the owner generously washes everyone’s clothes). We then enjoy a communal dinner of pasta, wine and yoghurt and go to bed with full stomachs.
