We decided that as we were only walking 17 km, we didn’t need to leave until 9am in order to arrive for midday (many albergues have a strict checkout time earlier than this, but not the one we were in). We slept in and had a long breakfast.
It didn’t rain but it was incredibly windy and cold as we continued walking across the meseta with no trees or buildings to protect us from the elements. There were no bars or cafes the entire 17 km which was unusual considering we would usually pass one every 5 km or so.
We arrived during siesta and made lunch in the sun with a breadstick, jamon, queso, vino tinto and more apple cake from the bakery in yesterday’s town. It was lovely. We then had our own siesta before the pilgrim’s dinner at 7:30pm at the only restaurant in town. It wasn’t a very nice dinner, in fact the pilgrim’s dinners have been getting worse and worse so it’s time to cook again when we stay somewhere with a kitchen.
