Pembrokeshire Coast Path – Day 7 – Abereiddy to Goodwick

Day 7: Abereiddy to Goodwick

Up early again, it was a real shame to pass The Shed in Porthgain before it was open; I’d heard such good reviews about their seafood. Our guidebook told us there was a cafe a little further in Trefin that opened at 8am, so it wasn’t all bad news…

Arriving at The Mill cafe in Trefin just before 8am, we noticed there were no cars in the carpark and no lights on inside… it didn’t open at 8am like the book said, the sign on the door said 9am 😦 Considering we weren’t going to pass any services or places to eat until Goodwick after a further 21 miles, we decided to wait. The benches were quite comfy and we actually got a decent nap in! It was worth the wait 🙂

We took a break at Abermawr beach and this dog immediately came up to KC to scavenge some food. We assumed he belonged to the lady in the above photo, until KC noticed his collar that had his name on it and a message to leave him on the beach as he knew how to return home each day!

Hobbling into Goodwick, a little worse for wear – dehydrated, tired and sore, we picked up supplies for dinner from the Tesco, then stood outside, wondering how on earth we could muster the strength for the last few miles uphill to Fishguard. (Earlier in the day when I had phone reception, I’d called ahead the Hamilton Backpacker’s Lodge in Fishguard and booked us a bed for £21 each.) While stood outside, obviously looking sorry for ourselves, an Angel named Jackie asked us if we needed a lift. We told her the name of our accommodation and she said she was going that way and would be happy to drive us. Jackie, thank you so much! We were absolutely spent and you made our day!

At our gorgeous accommodation, we showered, did laundry, had dinner then hit the sack as early as we could. Today was a long and hard day and apparently tomorrow is supposed to be even harder…
